I have the java plugin showing in about:plugins. I can find java applets that
work but a certain speed test applet I usually use is not loading completely (no
start button). To achieve this I have a link in /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins to
/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01//plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so This is
from the j2re-1.4.2_01-fcs rpm available in j2re-1_4_2_01-linux-i586-rpm.bin
from Sun.

With Shockwave, I installed the two files from version 6.0r79 into the same
mozilla-1.4/plugins directory. You can find a link with about:plugins in
Mozilla's url bar to http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/ where the source for these
files is given.

The Shockwave plugin did not show up in about:plugins (and flash was not
working) at first. I tried restarting Mozilla a number of times and, in fact,
installed Mozilla-1.3 and dependents from 9.1 sources, then re-installed 1.4
before I noticed it was installed and working. Perhaps a reboot was needed, I
don't know but flash seems to be working here, now.

I can't seem to get Java applet support and the macronedia flashplayer installed
so that mozilla/galeon can use them. In mdk 9.1 this all worked -no problems.

In Mozilla-1.3 'rpm -ivh j2sdkXYZ' would install libjavaplugin_oji.so properly
and applet support was ensured. Same with the flash-player installer script, I
just told it that mozilla was located at /usr/lib/mozilla-1.3 (now -1.4
ofcourse) and everything worked.

I've tried moving the flash-files and linking (ln -s) the libjavaplugin_oji.so
to all sorts of places (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4,
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins, ~/.mozilla/plugins ) but nothing works. I have
MPlayer-plugin installed at ~/.mozilla/plugins which works fine. The best I can
do regarding java/flash is to just make the areas where they where supposed to
be seen in the browser disappear.
