This is still occurring today. However, to be more precise, configuration is
being done; it is just the display of the Summary dialog (which allows you to
configure things like X which hasn't been installed yet) which is getting
skipped, sort of like an "unattended" mode.

In today's cooker, an install completely skips the Summary and presents you with
the "do you want to install updates" dialog. As usual, you can't select it
directly from the left-side menu of stages.
This is a full install, non-expert mode.
