Do you have acpi=on or no acpi option in kernel parametters ?
After that could you have a /proc/acpi directory on your system.
If not your system is not supported (blacklisted) or acpi is disable in
bios ?
send me back full dmesg please.

description:
I have really struggled with getting the fan working on my Toshiba (2805-S201)
laptop: tried everything (APM, tosh-utils, etc.). Now am on ACPI.
I installed the ACPI packages and tried to load. But I get an error on system
startup: "can't open /proc/acpi/event" ... it says that there is no such file,
or something to that effect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, since CPU cooling is the last major
obstacle to my getting a healthy Linux install on my laptop.
