He lives in the contribs package linux_logo

No, I think he refers to the bootsplash logo that remains visible, when
the boot process is finished and which can be seen on all virtual consoles
as a transparent background image.

AFAIK this is handled by the bootsplash scripts that modify
/etc/sysconfig/bootsplash. Unfortunately my penguin went away as well and
up to now I've not managed to get it back.


exactly, that's the one i mean.

Maybe Olivier Blin can add it back to the "Linux" bootsplash theme. The
default theme should now have a very faint "9.2" in the bottom right corner.
