Maybe you don't know, but Mandrake 9.1 shipped with working swsuspend, but whether/how well it works depends on your hardware, and on your configuration (on my IBM 600X Thinkpad, swsuspend only works when using ACPI, but then I don't have working suspend to ram). On any recent Mandrake kernel (2.4.21-0.13mdk and later at least), you should be able to use 'pmsuspend', which should work for you. (Note, these issues are complex, I may have forgotten some things since I last played with swsusp, but if you check the kernel changelog, you will see many swsusp updates).
