do you use kde or gnome.
i suspect you use kde and that's a mdkkdm bug.
could you attach your /etc/sysconfig/desktop ?

I'm not sure of what component controls this function:
Using Mandrake 9.2 RC1, when I attempt to log-in as a different user, the GUI
log-in interface does not appear. I am given a command prompt for login.
