No, on my cooker box, lisa takes less than 0.0% cpu, and only sends
packets to my /24 subnet, but it may differ based on your network
configuration (which you need to give information on in bug reports like
this, I can't smell what you have done, and how your configuration looks!).

Also, if you take note of the output when starting lisa, you will see
something like this:
No config file, generating one, please run kcontrol as root to customise
Starting lisa: [ OK ]

Did you try that??

(actually, don't yet, you may want to send me your /etc/lisarc first).

This has been in effect since just after the release of 9.1 (the init
script in 9.1 was mangled). You should have reported this much much earlier!

Anyway, I have been using lisa on our /24 subnet for over a year, with
no performance problems, and I patched the init script to make a good
default config on all the networks I had access to.

A working lisa out-the-box is a really nice feature (if I had the time I
could find at least 5 reviews where someone complains about it not
working in Mandrake, or says it works so well in another distro), and
one that Windows has had for 8 years.

Plus, current kio_smb works much better (even without building against
libsmbclient which we can't do at present).

But, there are possibly better solutions than to disbale lisa by
default. Please, play your part and provide the information I need to
try and fix this.

Sorry, but this is one feature that I really can't see is worthwhile
disabling if there is any way to fix it, and so far only 2 people have
had issues with it (but I have had almost no feedback from others ... so
I assume it's working as well for everyone else as for me).

How many people have thought lan browsing in KDE is impossible because
they have looked in the LAN Browser and seen no computers??

Since none of the bug posters tried any experiments on how to fix this,
I provided some information in this bug report on how you can, both
testing on whether lisa needs a restart when an interface is taken up or
down, and also on how to help me find a way to prevent some devices
being included in the config.

It's impossible for me to test all these configs, it worked well on all
(4) machines I tested the script on (including our firewall with 3
ethernet interfaces, one box with eth and ppp), and I have had no
previous feedback (besides that it worked for everyone running Texstar's
KDE packages for 9.1 which include this script).

Buchan
