Hi there!

I have an ABIT BH6, Creative TNT2U, Adaptec 2940UW and a Promise U66
installed. /boot = hda1, /home = hda4, / = hde3, /usr = sda3

ML 7.0 installed fine, when I entered "linux ide2=0xd000,0xd400" in the
beginning of the install.

When I upgraded to 7.1 (tried to, that is) I got the following problem with
both
upgrade and clean install:

The first time it boots after installation (and last), it says:

...
/sbin/mingetty: /sbin/mingetty: cannot execute binary file.
... (more of the same)
INIT: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
/sbin/mingetty: /sbin/mingetty: cannot execute binary file.
... (same)
INIT: Id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
/sbin/mingetty: /sbin/mingetty: cannot execute binary file.
... (same)
INIT: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
/sbin/mingetty: /sbin/mingetty: cannot execute binary file.
... (same)
INIT: Id "4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
/sbin/mingetty: /sbin/mingetty: cannot execute binary file.
... (same)
INIT: Id "5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
/sbin/mingetty: /sbin/mingetty: cannot execute binary file.
... (same)
INIT: Id "6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: No more processes left in this runlevel

... and stops (for more than 5 minutes). Then I press ctrl-alt-del and it
says:
INIT: switching to runlevel: 6
/etc/rc.d/rc: /etc/rc.d/rc: cannot execute binary file
...and halts for good.

I tried again and installed without any mount points on hde. Everything went
ok. Boots fine. So, it must be with the support of the Promise U66.

What on earth is happening?
