Make sure you have the appropriate client for subversion installed. I.E. for DAV(http) subversion-client-dav, local subversion-client-local... Unfortunately, the client will crash if the right one isn't available. I don't really want to require everyone to install all of them, just to keep the client from crashing. So I consider this an upstream bug, not a bug in packaging.
