Thierry, problem solved :-))

I compared the modules.conf file from my 9.1 setup with 
the 9.2RC2 file.

After removing the last line (alias sound-slot-1 cmpci)
sound is working again without any problems.

After logging in (KDE desktop) there is no sound, but when I uncheck
"Start aRts sounserver on KDE startup" in Control Centre > Sound system >
aRts, the sound is working again, although the error messages remain.

In RC1 (and 9.1) there were no problems with the sound.
