------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-13-09 03:42 -------
I've recently downloaded Mandrake 9.2 RC2 and during the course of testing
it, I've observed this bug. supermount mounts a cd-rom on my dvd drive
(/dev/hdd) but fails to mount on my atapi cd-rw drive (/dev/scd0 and/or
/dev/hdc). This is problematic since I installed Mandrake 9.2 RC using my cd-rw
drive. I've turned off apic/apci on boot up to make sure that's not the
problem, but I still get the same behavior.

Here's some references from my /var/log/syslog that might be useful:

Default installation setting (supermount on, cdrom and burner detected
automatically)

How to reproduce:

1. switch to text console CTRL+ALT+F1
2. insert cd containing movie (e.g. AVI format) into your cd-r drive
3. mplayer /mnt/cdrom/movie.avi -vo aa
4. okay, i can watch the movie
5. switch to the next text console C+A+F2
6. login as root and type urpmi emacs (or whatever you do not have installed
and the source is a removable media /mnt/cdrom)
7. now the movie is interrupted and the drive is ejected
8. now you take the installation cd (in the case of installing emacs it is
installation cd #2) and press enter
9. ooops, it says it needs installation cd #2 though it is already in
10. okay. what about ls /mnt/cdrom.. nothing. the cd seems to be perfectly
empty.
11. trying to put it into cd-rw drive. well, works fine there.
12. well, let me try something else:
(as root) umount /mnt/cdrom2 (burner)
          mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom2
great it is accesible even now

mount -a

and also after supermount is back again.

let's do the same with cd-rom drive

(as root) umount /mnt/cdrom (cd-r)
          mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
bad :( an error message about bad superblock, too many fs etc..
13. note that other cd-r has no problems reading other cds!!!

Solution:

- restart solves everything
