Hi all: I saw the request at http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/92beta.php3 : " The QA team is especially interested to get feedbacks on upgrades from Mandrake 9.1/9.0/8.2. ", so I did.
I performed an "upgrade" of a 'development' MDK 9.0 system to MDK 9.2 early this morning and it went okay. Basically, it installed/upgraded almost everything and the system has been up & running since then. There are some anomalies and some other problems that I will post info about (and/or bug report as required) but I think Mandrake et al have done a good job - waaayyyyy better than years past!! This was done on a dual PIII (1GHz) system (using the SMP kernel), 768MB SDRAM, SCSI(AIC 7891) and IDE drives, GF4(ti4200) AGP video, AWE64 ISA sound, CDROM & CDRW, which is all connected to a switched small local network that uses a firewall & gateway for the internet connection. The install was done from the local hard drive using the 'basic' instructions at http://members.tripod.com/fhj52/linux/id3.html However, i used linux to mount the ISOs on a loopback so that I could extract the necessary dirs/files to a partition - a much better/faster/cheaper method than using 'ISO manipulation software' in MS Windoz. It took ~43 minutes. (Yes, it was a very big install/upgrade...) So, AFAIK, that HD install info is still correct and usable for 9.2. It could use a little 'version' update but I dunno when I'll get to it. Thanks for your hard work. "And, ...<Presidential Pause>... I mean it." __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
