I have discovered an unlikely (?) bug (at this stage).
rpm -e kernel-i686-up-4GB-2.4.22.8mdk:
No dep file found for kernel 2.4.22-8mdk-i686-up-4GB
No dep file found for kernel 2.4.22-8mdk-i686-up-4GB
look like i cannot find the specified kernel
/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.22-8mdk-i686-up-4GB
(a) initrd-2.4.22-8mdk-i686-up-4GB.img is not removed.
(b) vmlinuz no longer points to vmlinuz-2.4.22-9mdk-i686-up-4GB
(c) initrd.img no longer points to initrd-2.4.22-9mdk-i686-up-4GB.img
(d) vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-2.4.22-8mdk-i686-up-4GB that has been removed
(e) both entries 2422i686up4G-8 and 2422-9ent (!) are removed from
menu.lst
