Specificly, I'm using a D-Link DFE-670-TXD Fast Ethernet card (pcmcia not pci) in an IBM i1400 laptop. This uses the pcnet_cs driver. It does offer the driver when configuring for LAN connectivity. I've been working around this by configuring the PC for LAN connectivity first, and then backtracking and configuring for a pppoe connection later.
