Oops! Typo on my part! Specificly, I'm using a D-Link DFE-670-TXD Fast Ethernet
card (pcmcia not pci) in an IBM i1400 laptop. This uses the pcnet_cs driver.
While this is a supported card, when I go through the pppoe configuration
sequence using the drakconnect tool, this isn't among the drivers offered in the
driver selection.

description:
DrakConnect does not offer the option of installing the pcsnet_cs driver for a
PCI ethernet card when configuring for pppoe. It does offer the driver when
configuring for LAN connectivity. I've been working around this by configuring
the PC for LAN connectivity first, and then backtracking and configuring for a
pppoe connection later.
