Don't lost your time with drakconnect.conf, this does not exist anymore.
net_cnx_up or down or are filled at the end of the wizard so the main problem is
the misdetection part.
Can you give me precisely your hardware conf, use directly drakconnect and tell
me what happend, please ?

drakconnect main routine /usr/sbin/drakconnect call a wrong label gtk_layou
instead of gtk_layout clicking lan configure in expert mode
secon bug (or more):
calling wizard configure I cannot configure my pcmcia xircom cbem ethernet +
modem: in configure lan it aways use detect_device even if the relative checkbox
is not selected; then return to the main routine asking again to select wich
kind of connection you want. after that it does not save any configuration.
various drakconnect.conf are empty
