Component: initscripts
Summary: ifdown needs to release dhcp lease
Product: initscripts
Version: 7.06-27mdk
Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: initscripts

My ISP requires me to release a DHCP lease before another operating system on
the same computer can acquire one (or alternatively wait about 1 hour). Neither
Win2K nor Mandrake do this out of the box. WinNTCFG helps for W2K, and I edited
the ifdown script in 9.1 to add
dhclient -r ${DEVICE}
to the script just before it kills the dhcp PID (which on its own does not do a
release). I'm not sure whether that is exactly correct for all uses but it
works for me. It seems to me that Mandrake should release a lease as a matter
of course and courtesy, and it would be helpful for people in a similar
situation as me
