I upgraded the kernel a few hours ago and I didn't get any metalic sound problem
so far. I hope it stays this way. I'll mark it as fixed if it works OK for a
couple of days. Except if somone else still has this problem.

I while ago I posted this message to Cooker mailing list:
"It is happening to me recently that I sometimes get some strange
corrupted/metalic sounds when applications notify something to user. For example
new mail notification in Mozilla or new IM message in Kopete. I'm using Kernel
2.4.22-2 with ALSA 0.6.4 and Hercules Game Theater XP (using snd-cs46xx driver)."
Since then I upgraded kernel to version kernel-2.4.22.6mdk and this was still
happening. I then tried several times to compile ALSA from CVS snapshot and the
bug has yet to appear.
Other users (with different sound cards) also confirmed thie problem on Cooker.
