There's no way of manually setting things in the bios, only a *very* simple win32-based program to set few options. I tried lots of settings with the kernel boot line but I think commenting floppy stuff with devfs may have done the trick. here's a recap of things with this notebook: lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82845 845 (Brookdale) Chipset Host Bridge (rev 04) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82845 845 (Brookdale) Chipset AGP Bridge (rev 04) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801BAM/CAM PCI Bridge (rev 42) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82801CAM ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801CAM IDE U100 (rev 02) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) -> i810_audio, loads only with fully enabled acpi 00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 02) -> this one is apparently a smartlink amr 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation: Unknown device 031a (rev a1) -> GeForce FX, generic nv doesn't work, nvidia driver is fine 02:06.0 USB Controller: NEC Corporation USB (rev 41) 02:06.1 USB Controller: NEC Corporation USB (rev 41) 02:06.2 USB Controller: NEC Corporation USB 2.0 (rev 02) 02:07.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB22/A IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link) -> not tested, don't need it. But at install there's a warning about missing ehci something, is that for firewire? 02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller (rev 42) -> autodetected and works fine at full duplex and full speed 02:0b.0 CardBus bridge: Toshiba America Info Systems ToPIC95 PCI to Cardbus Bridge with ZV Support (rev 33) 02:0d.0 System peripheral: Toshiba America Info Systems SD TypA Controller (rev 05) -> not tested, don't need it one problem, the DVD-RW is listed 7 times, one for each lun. Is that a problem? However, cdrecord only reports it on 0,0,0. Mark
