OK I've found the problem.

There is now a kernel module for driving the Speedtouch, "speedtch".

This clashes with the user mode driver.

The kernel module needs to be disabled for the user space driver to run.

I have done this and modem_run now now works fine.

description:
I just installed MDK9.2RC2 and set up the Speedtouch and put the mgmt.o file in
/usr/share/speedtouch.

Normally the "ADSL" LED on the Speedtouch glows amber for a few seconds while
the microcode is uploaded. Now it glows amber and stays amber. I had no problems
with the Speedtouch using MDK9.1.

I renamed the microcode file so I could run modem_run manually. When I do this
the LED stays amber and modem_run exits. I tried running with -v 2 (maximum
verbosity) but modem_run still tells me nothing about what it is or isn't doing.

I tried installing the version of the speedtouch RPM that came with MDK9.1 but
it is exactly the same version. So modem_run is probably OK itself but maybe
there is a problem with the USB drivers? The USB device is an Intel 82801BA/BAM,
according to Win2K device manager.

How do I get some useful debugging output from modem_run? I can supply more info
then.

Thanks.
