Could you try the following : -evolution --force-shutdown -gconftool --shutdown -tar cjvf ~/evolution.tar.bz2 ~/evolution ~/.gconf/apps/evolution -mv evolution evolution.old -mv ~/.gconf/apps/evolution ~/evolution-gconf then run evolution, reconfigure it and see if it still fails..
