this is because openoffice-wrapper.pl create users .openoffice firectory. if it
doesn't exist there is substituion for user_interface font to bitstream vera
font, which is unfortunatelly still only in iso-8859-1 charset. then this lead
to unreadable all national characters in menu which isn't included in iso-8859-1
table.

After fresh standard Cooker installation (25-09-2003) I have a bad UI font.
Please check the attachment.
Possible solutions is to disable Font Replacement in Options dialog.
The PL-pl language is also affected.
Can anobody from .pl or .sk confirm this problem?
