Hi,

I'm experiencing a number of issues / weirdness with rpm packages
lately.

1) The new mandrake packages I mirroring from sunsite.uio.no are
weird. I'm not using the word corrupt, because they might not be.

The buildoutputs (of a rpm --rebuild) all carry the same message:

===
source package expected, binary found
Installing
/mirrors/mandrake-devel/SRPMS/CodeCommander-0.6.11-1mdk.src.rpm
===

A rpm -qipl gives:

===
rpm -qipl CodeCommander-0.6.11-1mdk.src.rpm
Name        : CodeCommander                Relocations: (not
relocateable)
Version     : 0.6.11                            Vendor: MandrakeSoft
Release     : 1mdk                          Build Date: Wed 21 Jun 2000

Install date: (not installed) Build Host:

Summary : CodeCommander - The Ultimate Programming IDE
Description :
Code Commander is a simple text editing tool for editing nearly any type
of
source code.
CodeCommander-0.6.11.tar.bz2
CodeCommander.spec
===

Which seems to be very normal.

Installing the source package gives:

===
rpm -i CodeCommander-0.6.11-1mdk.src.rpm
failed to open /var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm: Permission denied

error: cannot open /var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm
===
Which is weird.

MD5sum is the same on sunsite.uio.no, ftp.sunet.se and in the /SRPMS/
directory on Mandrake's dp264.

(For the buildoutputs see:

http://d10179.dtk.chello.nl/build/cooker/alpha/broken/
http://d10179.dtk.chello.nl/build/cooker/i586/broken/
)

So... I'm wondering what is going on. Are these packages not
backwards compatible? (Even my system with the latest rpm-* packages
installed can't handle them).

2) Building rpm's still gives:

Failed to find Provides:
PreReq: /sbin/install-info /sbin/ldconfig
Processing files: ORBit-devel-0.5.1-2mdk
Finding  Provides: (using /usr/lib/rpm/find-provides)...
line 176: Dependency tokens must begin with alpha-numeric, '_' or '/':
(well,... no. The info file has not dir info inside, commented out)

This also happens on mandrake's 264dp system.

3) The make-install issue. I beleive this one is being worked on.

List of affected packages can be found at:
http://d10179.dtk.chello.nl/build/cooker/alpha/make_install/
http://d10179.dtk.chello.nl/build/cooker/i586/make_install/

4) libtools like problem. Maybe this one is related to the make-install
one.

This is what happens:

===
Remember to add `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL' to `configure.in'.
Using `AC_PROG_RANLIB' is rendered obsolete by `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL'
You should add the contents of `/usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4' to
`aclocal.m4'.
+ ./configure i686-mandrake-linux --prefix=/usr --exec-prefix=/usr
--bindir=/usr/bin --sbindir=/usr/sbin --sysconfdir=/usr/etc
--datadir=/usr/share --includedir=/usr/include --libdir=/usr/lib
--libexecdir=/usr/libexec --localstatedir=/usr/var
--sharedstatedir=/usr/com --mandir=/usr/man --infodir=/usr/info
--exec_prefix=/
configure: error: --bindir=/usr/bin: invalid option; use --help to show
usage
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.55393 (%build)

I'd really love to get Issue #2 fixed. Until those errors start
disapearing
I'm holding back a bit with building & installing stuff (once you
--force a
rpm your system is practically baked).

Anyway, Keep up the good work!!!

Stefan
