I reran localedrake and it works now.  Probably a bad /etc/sysconfig/i18n file

I don't know if this is peculiar to my setup, but if it isn't this is a 
very bad problem as it makes simplified chinese input impossible.

If you bring up miniChinput input (log in as zh_CN and then shift-space bar),
you will notice blanks in the input routine.

I fixed this by going into 

/usr/lib/Chinput/Chinput.ad

and changing the line 

chinput.gbfont                  =       -*-*-*-*-*--16-*-*-*-*-*-gb2312.1980-0

to 

-*-song ti-*-*-*--16-*-*-*-*-*-gb2312.1980-0

What I think is happening is that Chinput is picking up the 
ming fonts which were designed for Big5/traditional input 
and so has some translation problems.
