whether you can boot with acpi enabled, and if so
does usb work when acpi is enabled.

in /etc/lilo.conf you should have :

....
append="... acpi=ht ..."
or 
append=" .. acpi=off pci=noacpi ..."

installl the latest tmb kernel and remove every referance to acpi (acpi=*) 
from the "append" line of the tmb kernel, rerun lilo
reboot 

if everything works -> acpi got fixed :-)
