           Product: pcmcia-cs
         Component: pcmcia-cs
Summary: xircom_cs and orinoco_ps drivers freeze kernel
           Product: pcmcia-cs
           Version: 3.2.4-2mdk
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: pcmcia-cs
        AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I installed today's cooker on a new laptop which uses the TI PCI4510 PC Card
Controller.

If I insert a standard modem card, cardmgr does the "modprobe serial_cs", the
memory probe, and successfully initializes the modem.

If I insert either a Xircom ethernet card or a Linksys Wireless card (both of
which worked on another laptop in 9.1), I get the "modprobe" for the correct
driver (xircom_ps or orinoco_ps) and then the kernel freezes. This occurs under
both the "linux" and "linux-enterpris" kernels (22.13).

My suspicion is that the memory probe is causing the problem, but I don't know
if it's a driver problem or a kernel problem (or how to find out).

This has been happening since the 22.10 kernel, at least. Occasionally the
drivers which freeze would actually get a memory probe message out to a "tail -f
syslog", and my impression was that a different memory range was involved than
for the modem, but these lines don't make it to the file before the freeze.
