Product: kernel
Component: kernel
Summary: PPP for a USB modem doesn't work with curent kernels
Product: kernel
Version: 2.4.22-16mdk
Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
After upgrading the kernel 2.4.22.1 to 2.4.22.10 (and also doesn't work with
newer kernels 2.4.22.12 or 2.4.22.16) the cell phone Siemens C55 connected using
a USB cable stopped working.
The proper device /dev/ttyUSB0 is properly created and also the GPRS modem dials
out and scessfully connects to the network. (as seen for example in kppp's
console) However registering with the network fails with the following error log:
Oct 14 11:00:52 agata pppd[2502]: pppd 2.4.1 started by m, uid 501
Oct 14 11:01:06 agata pppd[2502]: Terminating on signal 15.
Oct 14 11:01:06 agata pppd[2502]: Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline:
Interrupted system call
Oct 14 11:01:06 agata pppd[2502]: tcsetattr: No such device
Oct 14 11:01:06 agata pppd[2502]: Exit.
(in the log an user account is used but it also fails with the root account)
As the internet access continues work in the MS Windows, it shouldn't be a
hardware error.
