I have another machine that won't boot with apic enabled:

I booted it once with acpi=off, then with acpi=off noapic, I can boot it
again on Monday with only noapic, but I think that is the likely culprit
(since it was giving 'lost interrupt' just after detecting all the IDE
drives). This was booting 2.4.22-12.tmb.1mdk.

It's some Gigabyte P4 board ... let me know if you want the details.
