I just noticed that while colorgcc has been correctly updated no alternatives for gcc it was setup, nor for g++.
this was update from 9.1 + most security updates; a couple of packages were custom it unlikely that hotplug or module-init-tools would have affected update-alternatives :) after manually installling alternatives it works just fine. While not automatically adding alternative may be intentional in this case - postinstall apparently does it - I had them active already so I expect to keep them active after update as well -andrey
