I thought this effect was intentional, wasn't it? In "/etc/bootsplash/themes/[theme name]/config", there are aliases in the form of vt?-[resolution].cfg. Each of those specifies a background for the virtual consoles. You can remove the light gray 9.2 terminal background by removing those aliases and rebuilding the initrd (I use "/usr/share/loader/make-initrd").
