Good news and bad news...

Good news: unlike RedHat6.2 which panics trying to mount the Solaris /
partition, LM7.1b2 got to the graphical install.

Bad news: 7.1 made a paperweight of my laptop and now 7.1b2 has created a book
press...

Loads of error messages on the various virt consoles (I have no way to get these
here, so I'll sumarize the main ones)... unfortunately, the virt cons won't
scroll back and the 2nd console has a prompt (#) but won't respond.

- screenful of _X11TransSocketUNI<something> = 61 (I think)

- got to partition step. Deleted old partitions and used auto-allocate. Played
around with this and discovered that auto must mean random; the were several
different auto-allocations even though the same steps were used.

- formatted OK

- chose Customized and Developer

- error:
                         An error occurred
  nothing found while parsing /mnt/var/lib/urpmi/hdlist.cdrom1.cz2.

- install dropped me back into re-partition, re-formatted.

- packages:
                    Package Group Selection
                   *  Miscellaneous
                   *  Individual package selection

- selected both

- 23MB to install... ALL this after downloading both ISO images...?!!

- clicked OK anyway...

- install stalled.

At this point, I can toggle between virt consoles; but graphical install screen
has the following problems:
- only "text" part of screen is being used (white borders as when writing
directly to console)
- message area 3 is taking up areas 2 and 3 (see below)

It's better than RH, but is not usable for stock SS2 with 32MB, and int 1GB and
ext 1GB drives, and (I think) 1x CDROM.

On the virt consoles, I get messages like:
locale not supported by C library... my+gtk.pm lines 26 and 147
                           install_steps_gtk.pm line 147
...
unknown install class developer in compsslist
choosing size to install between 0 and 1

I'll try again, maybe the install will work better now that the Solaris
partitioning is gone...

If that fails, I can try to install over my net... which files will I need to
use for an SS2 (4/75) machine?
