FYI, maybe it is interesting for some of you:

Besides sftp there are more methods for secure file-transfer:
1) Using "scp" of the ssh-package.
2) Use tunneling with ssh (needs local ssh-client and
remote ssh-daemon).
I also use ssh-tunneling for a kind of "secure-pop".
Here's a sample .fetchmailrc:

poll mail via localhost port 1243 with proto pop3:
user my-login-name-remote
pass my-remote-pop-password
mda "/usr/bin/procmail -d my-login-name-local"
keep
preconnect "ssh -f -L 1243:139.6.1.1:110 139.6.1.1 sleep 10 </dev/null >/dev/null 
2>&1";
