Not likely.  It sounds like you ran a program that used raw i/o and
failed to return the console to the correct state.  Assuming that you
have the "magic" SysRq key enabled in your kernel (the mdk and mdkfb
kernels do) try pressing <Meta><SysRq>R which should repair the ^M
problem, and potentially the rest of the output problems.
