In process since 2 months, the update of the mdk-rpm howto is finished.
You can find it on linux-mandrake website:

Highlights:
. description of the menu system (with the whole menu structure) together
with the dedicated macros such as %update_menus but also %menudir,
%iconsdir, etc.
. the major macros:
. script macros such as %configure and %makeinstall for the builds,
%find_lang for best i18n support
. directory macros such as %{_bindir} and %{_datadir}
. Linux-Mandrake groups (starting for Linux-Mandrake 7.1)
. small local reworks in the light of my own experience with this howto
