I don't use runlevel 5, so I'm not terribly familiar with the session
selections, but I did run into the same effects. After upgrading
mandrake_desk, the next time I started X I ended up in failsafe
(IceWM). Upgrading sawfish gave me that as well. Then I did:
# cd /etc/X11/wmsession.d/
# cp 6Sawfish 2Gnome
I then edited my new 2Gnome file to point to gnome-session instead of
sawfish. Then I started X, brought up a term and launched my WM
(which had gone missing). Logged out saving the session and I was
back in business.
I don't think all of the window managers have caught up with the new
session management just yet (Probably will as they get their BM and
macro mods).
