If I want to manually upgrade to the 2.2.17 kernel from 2.2.16 and I am
using reiserfs will I need to follow the directions on the Mandrake update
page? Change the following from 15 - 16 to 16 - 17?
Important: If you use ReiserFS, please don't forget to do as following after
the upgrade:
1 If you used MandrakeUpdate or rpm -Uvh to upgrade, reinstall kernel 2.2.15
from native Mandrake 7.1
2 Type: cd /lib/modules/2.2.15-4mdk
3 Type: /sbin/depmod -a
4 Type: mkinitrd -f --ifneeded /boot/initrd-2.2.16-9mdk 2.2.16-9mdk
5 You can now remove the older 2.2.15. Type: rpm -e kernel-2.2.15
6 Type: ln -sf /boot/initrd-2.2.16-9mdk /boot/initrd.img
7 Type: ln -sf /boot/System.map-2.2.16-9mdk /boot/System.map
8 Type: ln -sf /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.16-9mdk /boot/vmlinuz
9 In /etc/lilo.conf add: initrd=/boot/initrd-2.2.16-9mdk
10 Type: lilo -v
I also would like to know if anyone has had success applying the
kernli
crypto patch to the Mandrake 2.2.16 or 2.2.17 kernels? I keep on getting
