Okay, I've had a quick look at FHS 2.1 and there's no mention of /var/state,
instead I understand that /var/lib is to be used for "Variable State
Information". But because squid doesn't have such information, I'll change
--localstatedir back to %{_var}, so that the spool is still in /var/spool,
log in /var/log and pid in /var/run. A ./configure switch for specifying
where those dirs are would be nice.
I also think that RPM is broken because of the i586-mandrake/macros file,
which sets %_localstatedir=%{_var}/state. I'll send an updated package of
RPM as well.
Expect the packages soon.
