Did you start the CUPS daemon after installing the CUPS package
(/etc/rc.d/init.d/cups start). When you reboot it starts automatically.

Perhaps there is a PPD for this printer but not the correct backend
filter. I will make a backend filter package soon (see below).

When you use the new cups-drivers-0.36-4mdk package the drivers are well
sorted, you will find all available Lexmark PPDs under LEXMARK. Please
restart the CUPS daemon after updating the package to get the PPD file
system structure read again. The ordering of the PPDs in the web
interface is not done by the directories, it is done by the
*Manufacturer: lines inside the PPD files. In the new package these
lines were corrected (or added when they were missing).

Later I will also add a package with some filters which are not part of
GS but seperate executables.
