Gee, *INSTALLING* isn't that hard. Get the src.rpm, replace the X 4.0.0
driver by the 4.0.1 driver (if needed) and install 'em. Replace the
reference to the "nv" driver by "nvidia" and you're done.
But while we are at nvidia and X 4.0.1 in general: How do I configure X
4.0.1 to use a refresh rate of 100 Hz @ 1152x864? Before I got the TNT2 M64
chipset card, I used a Hercules Stingray 128/3D (AT3D chipset) with
Mandrakes default installation of X 3.3.6. This card/server combination
displayed 100 Hz right away. I tried inserting the modelines from the X
3.3.6 XF86Config file into the XF86Config-4 file for X 4.0.1, but this
didn't work out. Either the card/server was using only 85 Hz, or it
wouldn't even start (ie. black screen, C-A-BS worked though).
So, how can I get XFree86 4.0.1 to display 1152x864 at 100 Hz?
BTW: Thanks for the link! Was quite a nice read. Let's sit'n'wait for the
next nvidia driver release, and we'll be really kicking Win98's a** as far
as 3D performance is concerned :]
