The package falls into two problems. First it requires popt-devel on
rebuild. popt is one of the internal packages of this source. Besides
everything (except python part - see below) builds without a glitch.
Why such require is made then?

Second there are problems compiling python add-on. It fails on trying to
link things to -lrpm. Sincerly this is a kind of error that is becoming
too frequent on Mandrake distros. It became quite frequent to find packs
that try to link to current libraries in the system and not to those
made on the current build. Such situation tends to produce several
problems:

Broken binaries as programs were compiled under the includes located in
the source and link to libraries that belong to other version of the
pack.
Binaries don't build has there is a big difference between includes and
libraries on the current system.
Binaries don't build because they can't find a library in the system.
Binaries get broken because they are linked to other library that is
about to be substituted by a new one, coming in the source.
You have to install unecessary development files on your system to build
successfully a new pack (power-user choice) or you have to dig on the
pack and correct sources and specs (hacker/developer choice). The first
does things at cost of space, the second has to burn time...

If this thing keeps on, I'm afraid that Mandrake will catch a syndrome
much well seen on other systems. You have a new program and it is
supposed to work with the same version of the libs you have in the
system. But, due to a "insignificant" difference between builds, the
program is useless.
