Oi,
I have uploaded new versions of LPD (3mdk) and CUPS (9mdk). They use
update-alternatives ("man update-alternatives") to manage the problem of
equally-named commands ("lpr", "lpq", "lprm", "lpc"). You have always
"lpr-lpd", "lpq-lpd", and so on or "lpr-cups", "lpq-cups", and so on and
the commands "lpr", "lpq", and so on are links pointing to the commands
of the appropriate package when one package of LPD and CUPS is installed
and to the LPD commands if both packages are installed. For accessing
CUPS printers you can always use xpp and qtcups, independent whether LPD
is installed or not. The man-pages are treated the same way as the
commands.
If you have installed both LPD and CUPS, log in as root and type
update-alternatives --config <command>
where <command> is one of the commands mentioned above, you can choose
between the LPD and the CUPS version of the appropriate command being
linked to.
One of my next steps will be integrating CUPS in printerdrake. Then all
can be done comfortably by point-and-click.
