I also had a hang at the same point, though it was for a remote printer via
TCP/IP. I did a reinstall without installing the printer and things went fine
(as far as the installation went - though I can't get WordPerfect 8 to install.
It acts like it is trying to install with non-root priviledges, though the
install was from root.).
