Yes. Because next step I am thinking is to build own device (I believe to
take some components from Taiwan/Hoing Kong), some kind of set-top box/home
mail-web client, Solitaire game console, etc.
This device should run with Flash RAM or SmartMedia. Current available size
of SmartMedia is 64MB, with 128MB coming but too expensive. So, kernel/small
FS/x-windows/browser/mail client should install on max. 64MB.
150MB - is first step.
I know that RedHat has ECOS system, some derivative of LINUX, I guess, which
will be used in their joint project with Ericson (home appliances)

Have no idea if Mandrake is working on similar project?

| I'm afraid you must be mistaken. MS Windows 98 SE will not install in
| less then 210 MB disk space without the CABs installed. The CABs are
| additional to that. Your 130 MB install was before the install actually
| happened. Win 95, on the other hand could be installed in 40.

Agree. to be precise (checked on my C: drive)
1) Win98se - 122.2MB - original CAB files before install.
That's exact size what is needed if you want to download Win98 over Internet
and install on your own. I was speaking about this number.

C:\WINDOWS directory - 296MB (including 14MB of Internet Explore cached files)
But, I installed Visual C/C++/InterDev/Basic, plus 2 HTML editors. I believe,
they contributed well to WINDOWS directory size....

2) Win98 ME (Millenium Edition)
Yes, I have this monster - but it rejects to install on my dual-boot
Linux/Windows PC. Saying that can't create some files...
 CAB/Setup size: 194.6MB
So, when installed, it will be about 400MB. Monster, no words. But still
smaller than Windows 2000....

So, one of the reasons I started moving to Linux, is disk size. I believe,
Windows 2001 (or 2002) will install in 1GB mimimum, including *useful*
options, like "Personal IIS" with "Private ASP" :-) So, it will build
individual pages - for me, my wife, and guests :-))
And I have no control on it - everything is decided by MS.
What I like about Linux a lot, is that I can decide myself what I need, and
what - don't. Unfortunately, I still don't have experinece to install naked
Kernel, then add Filesystem, and so on. That's why I am asking for your help!

With Kind Regards,
