Hi folks

I subscribed to the cooker list a few days ago after getting cooker up and
running on my toshiba 4070cds laptop. It replaced man 7.1 which installed
and ran very sweetly on the little beast. I've been running mandrake since
5.3 and have watched almost in awe as it's turned into a lovely distro to
slide in front of the newbies.

Anyhow on to my question. I've been using mandrake update to keep my
install current. I am now facing a kernel package upgrade and i remember
reading a page about the proper procedure to accomplish this but i did'nt
bookmark it at the time. Now i can't recall where it was. I attribute
this failing to remember to half century + neurons, but that's another
story. Any heads up to this info would be much appreciated.

I have been following the discussion about cutdown installs with some
interest because one of the things that's been on my own mandrake wish
list is an install option that installs only the minimum system and kde
(or gnome). I've been playing with linux since kernel 1.2.13 and i still
find the sheer amount of packages daunting let alone trying to explain
what all of it is to the newbies.

thanks

herman
