rsync-2.4.6-2mdk barfs for me too - not changed yet
when you get to configure X step, you can go to "exit install" if it
barfs, & choose to exit anyway, although it is not configured - system
will still boot (hangs at detecting CDROM with yesterdays stuff - still
dloading todays......)
