Making an updated Mandrake ISO? (http://forum.mandrakesoft.com/article.php3?sid=20000911070551) W. Unruh writes "This is more of a question than a story, but with some insights I have gleaned. When Mandrake was Redhat repackaged, one could use the Redhat minihowto to add new packages to the iso and be able to make a new ISO file containing that new package. However since 7.0 ( and especially 7.1 which I am using) the whole layout has changed. Mandrake provides some tools, but gives no idea how to use them. What I have found: You need to run misc/mkdhlist to update the mandrake/base/hdlist.cz file. But you need to eralse the Mandrake/base/hdlist uncompressed file or Mandrake install will use that instead. Then you need to go into Mandrake/base/hdlists and remove all but the first entry, because the depslist file will now not properly reflect the auxilliary cdrom file lists ( and the CD you make will be useless as the install program will complain about inconsistancies). [If there is a way of updating all of the auxilliary disks, or even just the Mandrake7.1-ext disk as well as the first base disk I do not know it] However, adding new packages to the installation routine is completely mysterious. How do you do it. It is said that the compss list is no longer used, rather the compssList and compssUsers are used instead. The former just gives a list of priorities for the three possible install option, while the latter list contains almost nothing and I cannot see that it is used at all for anything. It would be really nice if Mandrake published a complete guide as to how to keep the ISOs updated with security updates etc. Installing and then spending time updating each machine is a waste of time. " COMMENT: Uff... This dark woodoo needed to upgrade an ISO is AFAIK really not well documented, though not a secret either. It would be kind of cute if someone could explain it a bit. Warly?
