It is; /root/ddebug.log and /root/install.log

If it failed during install, it will probably fail thereafter -- 

-- but anyway packages failing to install is very rare, it's more a
problem of burn if installed from a CD or a problem or mirror/network if
network install.

No, it's rather rare so you may see it. And knowing what is important to
what it's not, with over 1500 packages, depending on what installation
class and hardware you have.. blah..
