OK, I've had lot's ISP's over the years, and Earthlink (recent
to me) is the first using CHAP authentication, and also,
unfortunately NutScrape-Enterprise servers, but I digress.........
I installed 7.2b3 last Saturday (Cheapbytes CD's). My only thing
lacking during install was the absence of an option for CHAP during
dial-up setup... easily fixed in Kppp post-install, but still, I
believe a CHAP option should'a been there. I believe y'all ought'a
rename 'rescue' to 'update' also.
Install went very well. p3-450 oc'd to 608 on a BX board (Soyo
6ba+III, 256mb ram, WD and IBM IDE drives on ide0, BCD cdrom and
Plextor cd-rw on ide1)). I slowed it to the default 450 mhz during
install. After install, lot'sa disappointments. IDENT, aumix, INND,
fail on boot. Sound was setup (AWE64 ISA), but many sound apps
fail, particularly XMMS. Kpackage bombs. KDE2 isn't equal to all
it's hype. Plex 8432 recognized and setup by 7.1, isn't by 7.2.
DMESG says HDD driver missing. But I digress again, I'll try'n
submit some bug reports after I've used the system for a while.
Currently I'd rate the system as very usable, with a lot of
annoyances. Like many apps (eg, Text Editor start 2 instances) I
believe this is an early B3 tho, as all the file dates on the CD's
are ~ mid September.
