I've been using GNU Emacs for many years now and I can tell you that GNU
Emacs (version 20.7) seamlessly supports editing of DOS files. For my work
I'm using Rational Rose in combination with VC++. The files generated by
Rose are all DOS files, but I can edit them using GNU Emacs. I don't see
the ^M in the source file, but automagically GNU Emacs will retain the ^M,
but will also add them for new lines.
My 2 cents,
