I think a lot of people are not seeing something
fairly obvious to me.
It does not matter if gcc 3 is out by the time
Mandrake is ready to release another
distribution.
It doesn't.
Plain and simple.
You know why?
Mandrake won't release a seriously broken
distribution. Look at them! Pixel, Chmouel, all
of them, they work their rears off to make sure
the distro works!
I have no clue how many patches they've applied
to however many pieces of software they have in
the distro. You think they're afraid to patch
gcc? NO! They'll add patch after patch, and
even move to 2.97 if needed. They will make sure
that the problems that have recently been
discovered (and that may be discovered over the
next few months) will be fixed BEFORE Mandrake
releases another version.
Why did this even begin, anyway? Cooker is for
development! That's it! If you're running
Cooker on a production machine, you MUST have
suffered some severe head trauma, and should see
a doctor as soon as possible! It's not for every
day use! Don't yell at the package maintainers
for their decisions! They obviously did it for a
reason. I'm not saying don't question their
decisions, but don't go off on them! They have
MUCH better things to do than sit here and listen
to someone go off on them because they don't have
a clue as to what's really going on.
So god damnit, end all these god damn gcc 2.96
hatemail threads now. There's MUCH more
important things to work on, like a 7.2 beta
version that's almost done!
