Did a rsync of mirror this am and did a reinstall to see how things were
progress. Unfortunately the install was not a good as previous.
the install was expert, development, everything ....
-previously as a user I could not launch DrakConf and get into
privilaged, after password nothing happens, areas but I could as a
normal user su to root and from the command prompt run DrakConf. This
doesn't work anymore. DrakConf comes up but when I pick startup
services i get errors. See the attached drakconf.txt for the errors.
- the same errors occur if I pick any other setting in DrakConf.
- the menus selection is not complete .. all I see is favorites,
applets, another level menus, kde menus, run, panel, lockscreen, and log
out.
paper size is letter
- printing problems (CUPS)... i've got a HP LJ 4L
selecting a printer during install ... I selected my printer (4L,
foomatic + ljt4 (en)
and the image size was 4 x what is should have been. The top and left
margins look okay but the bottom and right are off the screen. Image
quality is good.
tried HP laserjet, foomatic + laserjet (en)
good quality but the top and right margins are off the page
tried generic postscripe ... print quality is good but the bottom and
top margins are a little too big. About a third bigger than the left
and right
tried hp 4 series cups +gimp Print v4.0 (en) .. image quality is
terrible looks like a very bad draft copy hmmm ... resolution on the
print says it is 150x150dpi ... the left, right , bottom margins are all
good but the top margin is off the page
tried hp laserjet, foomatic + laserjet (en) ... top and right margin is
off the page, left margin is a little big and the looks okay
finally tried cups, ljcups v1.1 en .. quality is good but again the top
and bottom margins are pushed into the page about a 1/3 more than they
should. If the top and bottom margins were set the same as the bottom
margin from 4 series cups +gimp print v4.0(en) it would be perfect.
- text printing is okay .. just the postscript is causing me to hack
page margins and I didn't have to before with 7.1 using lp
I will hold onto these printouts incase anyone needs more information
Creating a boot disk
this failed .. mkbootdisk failed .. I tried both disk 1 and 2
after this I tried the autoinstall floppy and it worked
There was a few other errors on boot up that I didn't record ...
